Hospital Stay

It was after our weekly prenatal class.. Leonard need to leave early for some property appointment so i stay throughout, and decided to go to KK hospital for my 2nd opinion with regards to my blood count after the lesson.

Arriving the hospital at 4pm, reporting to A&E as stated in my referral letter. Got myself a number to register, the nurse how many weeks pregnant i am, immediately, she refers me to the Delivery Suite for check up instead of the A&E.

I got wheel chaired to the suite, got myself register and they belt me up to check if im having contractions.the monitor that is connected, check the baby's movement and heartbeat. this is my first time seein this system. After about 10mins of monitor, the in house gynae came to see me. Refer to the letter, he ask if i want to continue my checks and deliver my child in KK Hospital, i said no. As i mainly came for 2nd opinion, and KK Hospital is not my option for labour. The gynae gave me a look, and claims it is weird to hop gynae checks, well..thats the whole point for me to seek another opinion isnt it.

Then, he drew my blood to check on the blood count. Telling me the normal rate should be 12, he claims blood transfusion is necessary if it falls below 8. He suggested me to get myself admitted to have a better rest while waiting for the blood test result. Replying its ok, he still insist that i should get myself admitted first, so i said yes unwilling.

I got push out again to the delivery suite. While waiting for admission, ive decided not to get admitted since i am here for just the blood check, should only get admitted if the stay is required. Thus, i inform the nurse and inform that i need to go have my dinner since the result is goin to take roughly 2hours. Knowin that i am alone, the nurse doesn't allow me to leave the suite, make me milo and biscuit while she call to check on the result.

True enough, the blood count is low. it was 6.9 again, regardless how many iron pills ive taken, it remain the same. They got me admitted.

I was pushed to the ward at around 6.30pm. I was starving. As soon as they got me brief about the hospital and ward, they served me dinner while i wait for Leonard to bring me my belongings.

He, together with my mother in law and his frend David arrive around 7.45pm. Chat for awhile and they left at 9pm.

Another gynae came to see me, explaining that they are in the midst of discussing my case. She will return to me later to check my pressure and will meanwhile put me on saline drip at 10pm.

The drip, is one procedure that i afraid most. Being a sick kid, i got use to needles poking for blood or injection. but needles for the drip at the back of my palm, thats worst. Blood splash out as the gynae finish the procedure in setting up the drip for me, she claims that she is using a bigger needle so the blood will flow faster later. Indeed, it hurts so bad that as soon as the gynae left, i cried.
This time, my lill one move gently. Not her usual movement, however, she move slow and gently. Giving me a signal, asking me to be strong, and tell me that she's here with me that i am not alone. That put a smile back on my face, telling me that its all worth it.

I got sleepy and upset about the pain of the drip, then the gynae came again to confirm about the transfusion. Explaining the details to me, she got me sign to the consent letter. Blood came at 1.30am, while they only change the saline bag to blood at 2am.
Next, the nurse push the blood pressure machine to my right hand. Claims that they need to monitor my pulse every 10mins. I was tired, and while the blood flows into my veins, it hurts very badly.

I close my eyes, tryin to massage my veins on my left hands, while i felt someone came into my ward and massage for me. It was the nurse. Ask if im feeling cold, she rub my veins gently. I feel so touched and soon, i fall asleep. At around 5.15am, another nurse came to check the packet of blood. its completed. took away the packet of blood together with my leftover saline. She return again with saline syringe, she inject it into my veins, again, the pressure makes my veins painful again.

Just as i tot everything is over, they switch on the ward lights, and did check up for everybody. Its morning time, and they start serving breakfast and doctors came to see everyone.

They did another blood test for me. And promise that i can get discharge and another packet of blood will not be required even if the result falls below 8. True enough, the result is good. It increases to 8.2 this time.

My mother came to visit me, and help me to discharge at around 12.30pm. I am finally free and can rest at home.
